What we do and don't count at the Green Farm Juicery!

We don't count: calories, marcos, micros or protein grams.

At Green Farm we avoid reducing food to a numerical unit as if our bodies are mechanical and require a very specific amount of fuel to operate. We are not made of metal, tin, bolts, or screws; we are living organisms with a complex system that requires vitamins, enzymes, cellular hydration, minerals, amino acids, glucose, salt compounds and nutrition to fuel our organs, our tissue, our blood, our brains, muscles and skeletal system.

Food either heals our bodies, is neutral, or actively harms our system.

Quantifying fruit does not tell the whole story of what it gives to the body. If you enter an apple into your calorie counter, you will find it's about 90 calories and 19 grams of sugar. What it doesn't compute is that the apple provides living hydration in the form of water, fiber, vitamins, minerals, antioxidants and plant compounds that support all the organs in the body, especially the liver. And that 19 grams of sugar is actually glucose that is absorbed in the bloodstream and used by the cells for energy, the liver helps regulate the blood glucose by storing some as glycogen and releasing it when needed.

Fruits contain natural sugars which source the body with glucose. The brain, muscles and tissues rely on glucose. The liver helps regulate blood-glucose levels and store energy for later. Whole fruit also provides fiber and water, which is an entirely different experience for the body than eating a piece of candy that may contain the same amount of calories and sugar when inputted into the tracker. But they are not the same!

When sugar is eaten with fat, it is problematic for the body (not talking about once in a while, but when consumed frequently), contributing to weight gain, insulin resistance and metabolic dysfunction.

A baked treat for example that contains sugar, cream, eggs, etc., is a fat and sugar combo that harms the liver by over-burdening it.

We all need protein, and the amounts will vary according to age, body size, activity levels and health status. Most people meet their protein needs organically. We are marketed to and told we need protein powders and giant steaks to meet these needs. Protein powders are processed and almost all of them contain high levels of lead.

We turn to our fruits and leafy greens and the Medical Medium Morning Cleanse to help detox the body of lead, so adding more is counterproductive and harmful. Fruits and veggies contain amino acids, which the body uses as protein. Over consuming protein strains the kidneys, digestive system and liver.

The trend leans into protein, but should we be counting protein or ensuring our diet is plant based, low fat and supplemented with celery juice, a variety of cold pressed organic juices and healthy snacks such as veggies, dates, salads, seeds?

Our philosophy is not anti-protein or anti-getting enough calories, it is anti-obsession.

The true key to life is harmony and balance. For many people, tracking creates a lot of noise and anxiety, making eating stressful and labeling foods as good or bad. It can create guilt and shame. At Green Farm we do not believe it is necessary to count food that is actually food. Health is a state of mind just as it is physical for the body.

We are always transparent with every ingredient we use, including where it's sourced, but you will not find the micro and macro counts here.

What we do count: We count colors! 🌈
